The Montsonís castle was built in 1024 under the orders of the Count of Urgell, Ermengol II. During centuries,
it belonged to several lineages and became property of Carlos Montoliu, Baron of Albi, Lord of Montsonís who
nowadays owns it.
Through successive inheritances the castle has always belonged to the same family.
Inside this magnificent monument we can admire: the splendid exterior façade and its homage tower,
the private oratory, the kitchen, the courting benches, the bread oven, the prison, the wine cellar,
the pilgrims' room, the armoury, the shields room and all the other rooms in which are exhibited the
tapestries and the memories of other times.
For curious visitors: The spectacular view from the homage tower, the prison with the chains of the
prisoners, the room of the fugitive, which has a window but no door, the secret passage of the wine
cellar to quickly escape in case of siege.
