The Parc Temātic de l'Oli (Olive Oil Theme Park) foundation was set up in 1998. The theme park, which is located in the very centre of
the Terres de Ponent (Lands of the West), was created with the aim of conserving and promoting the cultural references
associated with the production of extra virgen
olive oil in Les Garrigues (Spain).
The inside route takes visitors through a series of halls in which it is possible to learn about the origins of olive oil and how it is made. The exhibitions start with the Ancient Greeks and finish with a 20th century olive oil mill that is still in use.
During the visit, simple explanations are provided relating to how olives are picked, the tools used to do this, the different types of olives and a variety of other information about the olive-oil industry.
Outside the Parc Temātic de l'Oli, visitors will find an authentic olive tree paradise. There are 54 trees that are over a thousand years old and which were originally associated with the Roman settlement of Ulldecona (Montsiā). These examples,
of the "farga" variety, are thought to be between 1700 and 2200 years old "farga".
Visitors will also find a collection of olive presses that illustrates the evolution of the process of extracting and producing olive oil from the 5th century BC through to the 20th century.
