The suffragan church of Sant Joan Baptista de Cellers, with its voussoir portal and its disguised bell-cote on its western front, appears to date from the last years of the Middle Ages.
The old canonical priory of Sant Miquel de Cellers or El Congost also stood here. It depended on the provostry of Mur. This institution would appear to have been founded around the year 1170 by the
Counts of Pallars. It was incorporated into Lavaix in the 14th century. The church was already in ruins by 1418, but still existed as a sanctuary in 1860, although today there is no trace of it.
Today, the church has been restored and painted in fresco by the artist Josep Minguell. |
