The village of Espui lies 1285m above sea level on the right bank of the river, where it meets the small Berdins torrent.
The focal point of the hamlet, which has also managed to preserve its unique character, is the parish church of Sant Julià.
This was originally a Romanesque style building, but was subsequently modified, with the addition of a square plan bell
tower which is reminiscent of those in the Vall de Boí (this village originally
belonged to the Erills, like the rest of the Vall de Boí). Nearby is the sanctuary of Santa Maria, which has been rebuilt
in more modern times and is made of stone. Further south and nearer to Aiguabella, although positioned up on a hillside on
the same right hand slope, stands the sanctuary of Mare de Déu de Fa, which has also been recently restored. |
