In the Església Parroquial de Sant Vicenç, which is located in the lower part of the village, it is possible to
find a tombstone dedicated to Arnau Mir de Tost and a Roman marble sarcophagus dating from the third century and
engraved in bas-relief with pagan and mythological scenes. The present church is a combination of
two old churches that were fused together adding on to its south side a second nave from the
Església de Sant Salvador (Church of the Holy Saviour), adding on to its south side a second nave from the Església de Sant Vicenç,
which was built between the 12th and 14th centuries and is a notable example of the transition between the Romanesque and Gothic styles.
Other significant buildings include the ancestral home of Gaspar de Portolà (discoverer and first governor of
California), the old Montardit pharmacy, which has been conserved exactly as it was when it closed in 1939, and
several porches in Carrer de Sant Martí. |
