This is a Romanesque-style church that was built on the site of a former mosque. It was consecrated for worship in 1186 as the
centre of the parish of Sant Martí. It is a single-nave temple covered by a pointed plain vault, with three
supporting arches in the nave and a double apse. During its history, the church has known several different uses: it has
housed magnificent academic events as part of the Estudi General, endured sieges and local wars and has also served as
a military barracks and as the province's prison.
