This Romanesque church has mistakenly been considered to be a former templar monastery. There is no reliable
information or documentation relating to the religious community that was present in this area, though it is assumed
that it was a Benedictine order. In the act of consecration of the cathedral of Urgell, this church was considered
as dependent on Santa Maria d'Àneu and during the 10th century, it depended on Sant Pere del Burgal. The temple has
three naves, with a main apse and two secondary apses being decorated with arcades. The frieze, formed by decorated
arcades with human heads and zoomorphical figures, decorates the southern facade, where it is possible to find an
interesting main porch with archvaults, an outer frieze and three columns on each side, with very streamlined
capitals and flowery abacuses. In the upper frieze, above the porch, there are two bas-reliefs with two groups of
pictures that apparently portray Adam and Eve before and after committing the Original Sin. As in Alòs, the
representations have been partially mutilated. The are also two gothic style windows in the same facade. |
