CHURCH OF SANT LLÍSSER D'ALÒS |
 |
|
 |
The cross vault has been modified and the bell tower has a square base and a pyramidal roof.
The Romanesque style main door is of particular interest and is very similar to that of Sant Joan d'Isil.
It has three archvaults, two of which are decorated with sculptural figures. There is an outer frieze, with three columns on each
side crowned by capitals decorated with human heads and animal motifs.
There are two Romanesque bas-reliefs on both sides of the main door. According to the traditional interpretation, these
represent Adam and Eve before and after they committed the Original Sin (it is probably a work of sepuchral origin). The
one to the right has been modified for puritanical reasons; it is well documented that at the beginning of the twentieth
century it was still intact and that the artist C. Rocafort asked for it to be conserved, although "the artist did not
have many scruples in giving shape to his thoughts". One of the front parts of this church is conserved in the
Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya in Barcelona. |
