He building is up on the top of a small hill, from where it is possible to look out over the landscape of the surrounding territory. Next to the present-day hermitage there is part of a
Romanesque-style cloister, built in the 12th century, which formed part of the women’s Cistercian monastery of La Bovera,
which was linked to the monastery at Vallbona de les Monges, founded around the
year 1176. There is a picnic and leisure area and the people of Guimerà maintain the tradition of celebrating communal
meals at La Bovera every Easter Monday. The people of many other villages in the surrounding region also organise pilgrimages to this site on other dates. |
